The Blurb: I've lost it. The only thing in the world I wasn't supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It's been in Magnus's family for three generations. And now, the very same day his parents are coming, I've lost it. The very same day. Do not hyperventilate, Poppy. Stay positive!!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry the ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her 'happy ever after' begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring but in the panic that followed, she has now lost her phone. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect! Well, perfect except the phone's owner, businessman Sam Roxton doesn't agree. He wants his phone back and doesn't appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life. What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other's lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents... she soon realises that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.
The Cover: How pretty is this cover?! The colours and the illustrations are just lovely, and I really like it as a whole. It also goes so well with all of Kinsella's other book covers, which are gorgeous too.
The Review: I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella's books, and I've read every single one. Like the rest of them, I've Got Your Number is a fun, lighthearted novel, filled with amusing characters. Speaking of amusing characters, I absolutely adored Poppy. Funny, kind, and so positive, she is a welcome change from the overly negative leads we find a lot in chick lit these days. She drew me into the story right away, and from the first pages I found myself laughing, and very nearly crying, along with her. And then there was Sam! Calm, controlled and collected Sam, who by the end of the novel had earned himself a well deserved place on my list of book boys I wanna bang!
I was really intrigued by the whole idea of this book when I first heard about it. I mean, a girl just finds a mobile phone in a bin and starts using it? And then she starts invading some guy's life, reading all his messages? And then they begin to fall in love? While it may seem a teensy1 bit implausible, once I was absorbed in the story I was more than willing to suspend disbelief for a moment, and take the novel for what it is.... a funny, frivolous romp of a book, perfect to kick back with, cocktail in hand.
I've Got Your Number is a truly modern love story. It's a book that is sumptuous and frothy and overloaded with hilarious banter and sweet, somewhat sassy characters. In my opinion it's one of Kinsella's best novels yet, and I simply can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
This book was adorable. 4 Roses!
Thank you to Random House for providing me with my copy.
1. Read: majorly. (Yes, I just used a footnote. Poppy would be proud!)

Hi, followed your link to this review from the Book Blogs group. I'm following you via GFC. My blog is at: http://365-books-a-year.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I've never read a Sophie Kinsella book? I read in your review that you've read all of her books. Which one would be good to start? (In other words, what book would make me a rabid fan of hers?) Thanks.
Thank you for following me! :) And I would recommend the Shopaholic series - that's what I started with, and after reading the first one, I bought all of her other books! But all of her books are great really. Let me know what you end up starting out with! x
DeleteMandy, what do you think is her best stand-alone novel? I feel overwhelmed by all of the series books I have to read right now.
ReplyDeleteHmm, either Twenties Girl, I've Got Your Number or Remember Me! :)
